Say Bye Bye to Our Physical Audio CDs??

Hi readers,

Just wondering how many of us here know or can associate how a pencil and a cassette tape can work together?

Recently one of our favourite CD retail outlets, the Gramophone has walked into the history in September 2013 and the news come not very shocking for some of us as its downsizing exercise has suggested the day will come sooner or just a matter of time.  Later in the month, HMV also announced that the outlet at 313 is closing in November 13.  Does all these closing down in businesses suggest that the day where by shopping for physical audio CDs is gone?

One of the observations that we made in the sun setting of CD retail business is the buying behaviour in the world has changed so much with technology improving everyday.  Reasons like it is so cheap and convenient to download from the internet and the lack of storage space etc.  To supplement it, recently I just came across an article on the internet which suggests that quality of the digital music files is far more superior in quality than the CDs and DVDs as a result the writer boldly forecast that CD/DVD will be obsoleted by 2015/17 respectively.  These mediums will be completely replaced by digital music files in a few years time. CD retail outlets and CD players will no longer exist, large Hi-FI makers will stop investing money in researching on better CD related equipments and better formats.  If the change did take place, we know the significant downstream effects it will bring along and how affect the listening habit of the audiophiles, the entire Hi-Fi industry and the even employment that link and depend on it.

Scary it might sound but we have all being through these cycles and weathered their negative impacts.   I just hope that day to say bye bye will not come too early.
