It is estimated that Elvis Aaron Presley, born on January 8, 1935, has sold over one billion record units worldwide. The King of Rock 'N' Roll has had 150 different albums and singles that have been certified gold, platinum or multi-platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). He died at his Memphis home, Graceland, on August 16, 1977, after an illustrious and influential career.
He began his singing career in 1954 with the legendary Sun Records label, based in Memphis. In 1955, his recording contract was sold to RCA Victor and by 1956, Elvis was an international star! He became The King of Rock 'N' Roll with that style and voice that, together with his diverse musical influences, challenged the social and racial barriers of the time. He certainly ushered in a whole new era of American music and popular culture.
